Firefly Lane: Did Tully and Kate make up?

By the end of the first part of Firefly Lane season 2, Kate and Tully have not made up, but they do in the books.

The tumultuous but long and loyal friendship between Tully and Kate is part of why fans love Firefly Lane so much.

However, part one of season two has not yet revealed whether they make up after the fight that Tully and Kate had at the end of the show’s first season.

The friendship between Tully and Kate

When Firefly Lane was first released on Netflix in 2021, the series quickly became one of the most popular dramas on the platform.

One of the reasons why audiences immediately fell in love with Firefly Lane was because of the compelling friendship between the two main characters, Tully Hart and Kate Mularkey.

In the show, their friendship began decades ago when Tully and her mother moved in next door to Kate and her family.

Throughout the first season and the first part of the show’s second season, audiences get to watch as these two unlikely friends handle everything from divorces and substance abuse, to workplace drama and more, together.

Firefly Lane: Did Tully and Kate make up?

Some of the other aspects of the show that casual audiences and fans of the original book series by Kristin Hannah have grown to appreciate since the show first started airing, is the fact that it uses so many flashbacks and flash-forwards to tell its story in a new, unique, and fresh way.

However, most viewers were shocked by the revelation at the end of the first season that something had driven a wedge between Tully and Kate, who had been the anchors of the show up until that point.

Although, many viewers tuned in to watch the first episode of the second season, which started airing on 2 December 2022, in the hopes that they would finally get an answer as to what Tully did that was so bad that Kate never wanted to speak to her again.

Fortunately, the answer to this came late into the first part of the second and final season of the series, when it was revealed that Kate’s daughter, Marah, and Tully were in a car accident, and this is what caused the rift between the friends.

However, this explanation differs from what happened in the books, and since Kate and Tully had not yet made up by episode nine of this season, fans will have to wait until the second part of the season is released to find out if the friends will ever make up the way they eventually did in the books.

What caused the fight between Tully and Kate in the show?

It was eventually revealed that the reason why Tully and Kate were shown being so hostile towards each other near the end of the first season was a car-accident that Tully and Marah were involved in one night.

Although Tully and Marah were both injured in the accident and Tully’s was not to blame for it, Kate blamed Tully regardless.

This was because Kate had instructed her not to let Marah go out when she was charged with watching her, and Tully was fetching Marah from a party when the accident happened.

How does this differ from the books?

In the books, Tully and Kate also fall out over a situation regarding Marah, but instead of a car accident, this fight is actually caused by Tully inviting Kate and Marah to appear on a segment on her talk show.

However, Tully does not tell Kate that the segment focuses on overbearing mothers, and when Kate finds out about this, she becomes furious with her best friend, but they eventually make up by the end of the second book.

What lies ahead for the rest of Firefly Lane’s second season?

Since the second season of Firefly Lane will be the show’s last, it consists of two parts. The second part of this season will only air in 2023, which means that fans still have a while to wait before they can find out exactly what story the show will follow.

However, so far, it is clear that Kate will need Tully’s support in dealing with her cancer diagnosis moving forward, but Tully is in Antarctica at this point, thus, it is unclear whether the friends will get the chance to reconnect before the show ends.

Near the end of the second book, the two friends get over their anger for one another, but since the reason for their falling out differs on the series, viewers will have to wait and see how this story plays out on screen.
